North of Mumbai one of the less populated beach is the Arnala beach. While there is no dearth of beaches in Mumbai. Some of them like Chowpatty, Juhu are the famous one, but highly populated and in case you land up on a holiday. Finding a place to put a foot around becomes difficult. Unless you are looking for Chat, the Mumbai crowd and Mumbai population effect.
So, it had me searching around for where we could enjoy both the Mumbai beach and the pleasure of being on a less populated beach in Mumbai. Being on the western side at Kandivalli we explored a beach north of Mumbai and a bit far away. So we decided to go to Arnala beach, while the drive was still 3 hours but it got us to a beach which was less populated and clean.
A place to spend a day morning to evening, carrying some grub and drinks along with you. While the drive was not so exciting the beach definitely was a pleasure. As a surprise the beach was less frequented possibly due to the difficult approach. Why would a person travel 3 hours to reach a beach when one is available at a 30 – 40 minutes drive.
If you are on a budget package catch a local train and use the western railway and get down at Virar (West), then from there you can get a share auto (charging somewhere around rupees 20/- to 25/-) Or a special auto (Charging about rupees 70/- to 80/-).
Please Note that here there is No Meter system for Auto and they charge on lum sum basis. Weekend charges to reach arnala beach might be higher due to crowd and a famous picnic spot.
From Road (Private Car / vehicle) : Since arnala beach is 7 kilometers from virar station, and the station itself is 9 kilometers from virar highway, one needs to come from western express highway till virar highway (land mark ‘Mahavir Dham’, the famous jain temple).
While the beaches are not those blue kind in Mumbai but here is a place you can enjoy at your comfort without any disturbance from the crowd.
And at the end of the day the sunset too is beautiful
